Those Less Than Desirable Habits

From my current perch, our bed, I can see a quite a few bad less than desirable habits. Some are mine, some are Sams*, & unfortunately a couple are shared.
An empty mug from this mornings coffee sits beside a used make-up wipe from last nights lazy bedtime routine, clothes are strewn on the floor & the bed is littered with remnants of todays journalling/reading/crafting/eating peanut butter & Saladas**.
Not to mention my other terrible habits; letting the dishes pile up on the counter, leaving hair in the shower drain, forgetting to put water in the animals bowls & leaving the bathroom light on. Just to name a few.

After reading an insightful series surrounding the act of practicing simplicity, I have become more aware of elements in my daily life that could use a little, well simplifying.

Instead of leaving my mug on my bedside, I should have returned it to the kitchen to be washed with the dishes this evening, saving me the extra trip. Instead of leaving bits & pieces (ie. make-up wipes, hair pins, pencils, nail clippers, bills) laying around I should really put them back in their place, making my bedside available for books, candles & a selection of hand & body creams. Instead of dropping yesterdays (& the day before & the day before that &...) clothes on the floor, I should have put them in the hamper, ready for our visit to the laundromat***.
I'm sure tomorrow morning I'll regret piling all of todays journalling/reading/crafting/eating on the floor beside the bed, because ya'know, old habits die hard around here.

I guess it's all a work in progress, really. I can't turn my chaotic & - more often than not - untidy life around overnight, yet identifying the need is half the task. Next up - applying it!

Do you have any undesirable habits? (really, I can't be the only one!)
Any tips for simplifying the everyday?
 xx

* Don't worry, Sam, I wont divulge your bad habits...not now at least.
** PS. I'm sorry for getting crumbs in the bed...
*** Just a couple more weeks until our new washer arrives...three to be exact, but who's counting?

It's Okay, It's Only Me

Think of my nose as the comma. "Surprise, baby! I hijacked a post!" not "I'm surprising you with a baby!"

For a long time, Sarah has asked [Read: Bugged the living hell out of] me to write something on her blog. A post of sorts. I think it's supposed to be about me. Or at the very least, something from my perspective. So while she's at work today, I thought it would be the perfect time to hijack a post-space and write a little something.

It's actually a long something. I won't be offended if you leave right around the time I start talking about lesbian aliens.

My name is Sam. I grew up in a small town called Kilcoy that under appreciated anyone who was significantly different to the norm; you have to like sports, boys, under-age drinking, drugs and generally being talked down to for the sake of a short laugh. I didn't like any of these things; I liked theatre, singing, musicals, RPGs (eventually) and my American friends on the internet. I was also a pansexual, which admittedly I didn't really understand until I actually left the oppressive tiny town and went into the real world. Once I graduated, I moved to Melbourne for a few months. The culture shock really opened my eyes to how, well, shit Kilcoy was. What? There are people in the world who don't force sport down your throat like broccoli* to a toddler at the dinner table? Boys who like acting aren't (all) gay? Pansexuals aren't just fancy bisexuals - who aren't just super greedy and unable to leave their motel layover between Straightville and Gayvegas? Where the hell am I
*I actually love broccoli and I always have. Props to the little green vegetable-tree-thingy.

Culture shock. Cool. So I grew up a lot and moved back to Warwick with my family for a year or so. Parents got a divorce. Dad moved away to be with his new SO (Significant Other). Mum found a new SO. My oldest brother Chris found several SO's, my older brother Daniel found a wonderful SO, and I found my first character girlfriend in an RPG.

Um, this is the part about lesbian aliens. So if you're still reading, props to you. You're a pro! And maybe you find me interesting.

Sweet merciful love~ (x)
If the game taught me anything, hey, it was that it was okay to not be a permanent resident of Straightville. Monogendered pansexual aliens who look a lot like hot chicks'll do that to some people. Sarah quickly learned about this after we were together, and accepted for a long time that she was not above Liara on my list of things I adore / cherish / are hot for.

It's uhh... Different now. (Sorry Liara. I still love you... You're still hot. I mean what?)

Eye openingly fake SO's aside, I was forced persuaded by a friend of mine to study theatre at USQ. So I did. I mean, I always wanted to but I never really thought it was a viable option. Neither did my mum (sorry mum, but you totally didn't. I totally remember it. I still love you.) Anyway, I met Sarah in my first year of university because we were both studying the same course. I used to hate her. Part of me kind of wishes that was a joke, but it really isn't. I always knew there was something strange about her - like she wasn't the person she showed everyone else. And I didn't like that I felt like whenever I talked to her, I was being lied to. Turned out I was right, just not in the way I thought. Without going in-depth, Sez did a lot of growing in that first year and wooh~ I finally got an SO that was real and actually liked me for me...*
*Not because I'm phat like Cindy Crawford. No? Just me? (x)

I'm not as sad / lame / boring as this post makes me out to be. I promise. Um... Is this a bad time to bring up the fact that I'm an avid roleplayer online? And that I have been for about eight years? Right, I didn't think that was very compelling for my case... IT HELPS ME WITH MY CREATIVE WRITING! IT'S NOT AS LAME AS IT SOUNDS! Ugh.

I prefer not to end on; You thought video games were nerdy? I write paragraphs online about fake people interacting with other fake people. But it's true. I only struggle to find pride in it because it has such a stigma about it. People think RPers are weird. Oh wait... I am weird... And not in the; look at me ohmigod I'm sooooo weird!!!1!11! kind of way.

...Did I just make a hipster joke?

I need to leave.

P.S: I bet she'll come on later and edit the coding so it looks right.
P.P.S: I'm just proud I managed to talk about Mass Effect on a non-game related blog.
P.P.P.S: Baby, if you're reading this... I got rid of the heap of tabs you left on the computer. Um, they were annoying me. <3

Hi, I'm Sarah, & I'm Allergic To Bananas

You may have noticed a a little freshen up and few new additions upon this humble little space - whataya think?

Aside from coding and the such, the hardest part was writing the 'About' page. I struggled to find the words to introduce me, and what this place is all about. I scoured other blogs for inspiration, and to procrastinate from writing my own, yet in the end, I just fumbled about, stringing a few sentences together to get the job done.
In, all honesty, it's not perfect or a finished product but, that's life right - it is continually evolving - and so will every part of this blog.

So, when I discovered I had been nominated for a Liebster Award , by Allison at Just Underneath, I figured this would be a great opportunity to indulge my narcissistic side, and write a few facts and answer some questions about moi.

"What's a Liebster Award?", you say; well...
"The Liebster Award is for bloggers with under 300 followers. The rules of the award is that the nominee must link back to whoever awarded them, write 11 random facts about themselves, answer the 11 questions from the award giver, and then nominate another 11 bloggers and make up 11 questions for them to answer. It's a great way for new and undiscovered bloggers to meet new people, get more followers and find some blogs that they want to follow."
Okay, here goes! :

11 Random Facts About Sarah:
1. I dislike eating leftovers (with the exception of chinese and pizza...they always taste better the next day) - especially anything that was originally hot but people consume cold (example: last nights chinese and pizza)
2. I was a dancer...a Scottish Highland dancer...and no, it's not the same as Lord of the Dance.
3. I am a homebody, but love to travel, which often leaves me feeling overwhelmingly homesick but doesn't trump the the excitement and joy of exploring new places.
4. I am allergic to bananas, which is difficult when banana bread smells so damn good!
5. on our 'wedding' night I we were sooo exhausted, we went to bed (& fell asleep) at 9:30pm...leaving our guests to party the night away.
6. I am partial to the 'f' word.
7. If you hadn't already noticed, from the multitude of photos and recipes, I like LOVE food - all kinds of food! & coffee...lots and lots of coffee!
8. I cry a lot - for all kinds of reasons. Yesterday, for example, I cried whilst watching Ellen  just because it makes me so happy! Tonight, I cried when my bread didn't rise. I'm just emotional.
9. My favourite book is Chinese Cinderella. I highly recommend reading it.
10. I performed at Woodford Folk Festival as a mutant human/pig - I wore a prosthetic snout and a chest plate with teats, for 6 hours a night...the other actors would 'suckle' on my nipples and we would throw baked beans at the audience. (oh, the things we do for our art - I swear I wasn't under the influence!)
11. I am annoyingly optimistic - the glass is always half full.

11 Questions By Allison:
1. Have you ever broken the law? Not that I know of... I (& a group of friends) was scolded by an officer for riding a trolley through an alleyway...is that illegal?
2. Have you ever broken a bone?
Yes - many - I'm a clutz!
3. Have you ever broken a heart?
Yes...not my proudest moment.
4. Where would you go on your dream date?
Anywhere, as long as it has a beautiful view and delicious food...and my love!
5. Who`s your dream date?
...Sam* - gushy-gross , I know.
6. Cats or dogs?
Well, both. I grew up with dogs, and had never really been around cats...until I rescued Appa. I love them equally!
7. Do you believe in ghosts? To some extent, yes. More so, I believe in spirits.
8. How would you spend a lotto win? I'm assuming this doesn't include the $7 I won when I turned 18. I'd definitely give some to my parents and the in-laws, and without sounding cheesy, a substantial amount would go to charity (we've already discussed this topic- optimistic, right?)
9. What posters were in your childhood bedroom? Growing up in the nineties, I owned copious amounts of Spice Girls, Hanson and Ricky Martin posters and merch. I was insanely in love with Ricky Martin and would sing "She Bangs" for hours on end...much to the amusement of my family.
10. First concert? I can't remember - I've been to so many!
11.Who do you most admire? My late grandfather. He was an incredibly kind and gentle man, with a wicked sense of humour and an insatiable love for potato crisps. He sat by his wife's bed, (as she is immobile due to Alzheimers Disease) every day from morning until dusk, right until his last days. He was deeply in love with her and told so her every day - even as she can no longer speak nor recognise him. He was noble and patient - two traits I am inspired to cultivate for myself, by his example.
*I wouldn't say no to Ryan Gosling, though.
